"One thing that’s really stuck out to me is the quality of people that come through these doors. It’s very unique. I’ve never been a part of a company that has had people like this and I love start-ups because you get to be creative and take leadership in your roles and projects. "
We interviewed Tania Molinar, our People Operations Specialist about what it's like working at Via.
I've been at Via for about 8 Months.
I accidentally found myself in HR. I worked HR assistant jobs that I didn’t know were HR assistant jobs. I found that I really loved it. So I just kept going and ended up getting my degree in it, some certifications in it, and found I love all things HR.
So, my superpowers are organization… I love to create organization from chaos. Another superpower would be, I am a people person. I feel I’m pretty easy to talk to and easy to talk to so that’s sort of my job and I feel like it comes naturally. I am creative so I feel this job allows me to be creative and bring joy to people's lives. Ha! You can cut that out.
There are two things that I love most about what I do. The first is that I get to work with everyone. I don’t just get to work with one team I get to work with every department and every department is very different, with different personalities, so it’s fun to learn about them and discover how they function and thrive. I also love that I get to be autonomous in my work and get to be creative and do things that haven't been done before. I also get to satisfy the compliance side of me and I’ve always loved employment law, so it’s a mix of a lot of great things.
One thing that’s really stuck out to me is the quality of people that come through these doors. It’s very unique. I’ve never been a part of a company that has had people like this and I love start-ups because you get to be creative and take leadership in your roles and projects. I feel like I’ve been able to do a wide variety of projects that have allowed me to grow and showcase what I do best. I’m hoping we have more people projects and more impactful projects. I’ve completely redone our onboarding process from just one day to a full year. It’s completely holistic and people have responded well to it. And I also do the mini projects here at the company and I’m really excited for the Halloween one, I’ve got fun stuff planned!
My tale begins in Gypsum, Colorado, where I grew up with two dedicated Mexican parents and 4 wild sisters. This home is what fostered my passions for culture and history, ours being incredibly rich with both (I'm still learning things). I love reading historical narratives about the American Revolution and about Indigenous cultures. I also love music; my father is a musician and growing up, we would follow him to every gig and dance all night long. I can play several instruments and sing, although voice is my favorite instrument. I did some classical training in high school and college, and I love to run around my house singing Italian arias. Another love of mine is reading; I love all things fantasy and fiction, and am actually writing a book of my own, dedicated to my younger sister.
Fast forward to today, I currently live in Utah with my husband, John Slack, and my pups: Gojo, an American Pit Bull/Australian Shepherd mix, and Luffy (pronounced loo-fee), a black purebred German Shepherd. We love to be lazy and watch shows, go on walks, hike, go camping, and my husband LOVES to follow me around the mall, practicing being completely invested in which eye shadow brings out my eyes.
My journey into tech began in 2019 where I started my career as an HR Project Manager at BambooHR (before then, I was in the recreation industry for 7 years). This is where I officially fell in love with HR and decided to get my degree and further my career. Since then, I've been an HR Manager for two other companies, both circumstances ending sadly with one dissolving and the other being acquired, but it brought me to VIA and I couldn't be more grateful. My favorite industry is SaaS, I don't think I will ever leave it. This industry allows you to be the most innovative, progressive, and balanced. I've enjoyed every second, including the chaos that comes with it. And the Human Resource profession is on the move! So much is changing about this field and I'm excited about the direction it's headed. I've always loved working with people and creating a space where they feel valued and where they thrive; my primary motivator is service and always has been, which is why HR is the perfect field for me. There's so much one can do to genuinely support employees in a way that brings out the best of them, and that is what I strive to do in every place I work.
